TO BE UPDATED: Android/Tablet Power and Data with Power over Ethernet
Valuable user, the current powered OTG hub we have been recommending has two issues:
- It's gotten really expensive because the manufacturer isn't making it any more
- It only powers at 6 watts, so it won't keep a tablet charged if the screen is on all the time
We're working on finding or designing the right alternative, so please check back in with us a little later.
Apologies about this!
One of our most often requested features is power and data to an Android or Microsoft tablet through an ethernet cable. Fortunately, we can help with that.
First, if you haven't already seen our blog on PoE for your tablet, check out our Tech Corner post on picking your PoE for tablet.
Bill of Material:
Once you have selected the right splitter and mounting, to do power and here's what you need:
USB to Ethernet
BobjGear USB to RJ45
Powered OTG Hub
*This only allows charging up
to 6 watts. We're still looking
for a 10 watt alternative.
PoE Texas Splitter
Micro USB Extension Cable*
* Keep your eye's out for PoE Texas' microUSB extension cable with a right angle head coming out soon!
Since a picture is worth a thousand words, why don't I save you reading a bunch of boring steps and just show you a picture of how it all comes together.
That's it! Not much to it. If you need more information on the PoE Texas splitters, feel free to check them out in our online store. And as always, we're happy to discuss your project if you'd like to get expert advice - 512-479-0317.
